How to Build An Email Engine To Send 2000 Emails/Day

We use a tool with which we can treat cold emails just like facebook ads by sending out multiple thousands of emails a day while split-testing to kick out the losing and invest in the winning copies.

If you do not know how exactly we are sending out so many emails and get results… In this blog post, I'll show you how we do it.

The Setup

We can't use just one email account for this. Actually, we follow a very simple rule of thumb:

  • For every 25–30 emails you want to send out, you need one email account.

  • And for every 3 email accounts, you want to buy another domain.

  • So we have 3 email accounts per domain, sending 90 emails.

We do this to avoid spam filters. There is a lot more about the technical setup, but for now, I will keep it simple. (I’ll link to the free checklist as soon as I have created it)

Now do the math by finding out how many you want to send and how many domains you therefore need.

How many?

Stats are always helpful, if you have no clue at all about cold emailing. So if you don’t have an answer to the question of how many emails you should send out, then read carefully.

With emails (on average) you get a conversion rate of 0.2%, if you consider average funnel metrics. This means you statistically get 2 clients after reaching out to 1000 people.

This is much lower than what you would expect when looking at cold calling, or other methods of advertising and marketing. This is the downside.

The upside is: We can send unlimited amounts of emails.

Sales is a numbers game, and so is cold email marketing.

To determine if the ROI is indeed worth it, you can expect costs of about $10 per email account for the setup & first month and about $8 recurring monthly.

To Whom?

This is almost as important as figuring out how to send this many emails.

Clearly defining your niche/target group is fundamentally shaping how your copy is going to look. So be as thorough as possible.

Our clients get access to our Google form, in which we have prepared a barrage of questions to make sure that this task is done with high precision.

Here are a few filters so you can start ideating and finding niches:

  • Job titles

  • Location

  • Industry

  • Amount of employees

  • Revenue

  • Keywords you would google for

The tool we use for our clients has both email sending capabilities and an enormous, GDPR-compliant lead database with which we can easily find our ideal prospects.

This way we are able to have the most accurate targeted lists possible whilst being time-efficient.

What to send?

If you have never written cold emails professionally, no worries.

I have written a blog post about how we check our copy for key criteria that have the most impact on efficiency. That post will also give you a very good idea on what your copy could look like, if you have never written professional email copy.

Keeping it informative, simple and straightforward is the generally a good idea.

But a very important note: Avoid playing guessing games.

Assuming that one or the other copy will do better than the other, is simply wasting time. You, especially when starting out, cannot know what will perform best.

Getting more advanced in copywriting lets you get a feel for your craft and the nuances of it. This allows you to limit split-testing options more quickly which ultimately lets you perform more efficient A/Z testing.

So don’t overthink copy. Use the rule of three and test things out:

  1. Write your copy

  2. Read it out loud and improve on weird passages.

  3. Read it out loud again and if there is nothing to fix, send it.

and make sure you read my blogpost in which I show my 10-step cold email copywriting checklist.

All things being equal, split-testing gets you further than overthinking. So try to reduce brain activity.

Inspired to act?

Of course, there is a lot more nuance in cold email copywriting. I barely scratched the surface. This blog post was supposed to give you a high level overview about what we do at ce-res.com.
